Gazer’s arrival in South Africa marks a turning point in the fight against vehicle crime, and SMD Technologies is honoured to be appointed as the official distributor in the region. 

A Global Leader in Digital Anti-Theft Technology 

Gazer is the world’s first manufacturer of fully digital cybersecurity systems engineered specifically to prevent vehicle theft. Their technology is already protecting over 65,000 vehicles in 26 countries, with a remarkable record: not a single protected vehicle has been successfully stolen. 

Unlike traditional immobilisers or mechanical devices, Gazer’s systems digitally block a vehicle’s control modules, immobilise the engine, and instantly alert the owner if a threat is detected. This level of intelligent protection is especially crucial in South Africa, where criminals are increasingly using sophisticated methods, such as key cloning, relay attacks, and electronic bypass tools. 

Why This Partnership Matters for South Africa 

Between January and March 2025 alone, South Africa recorded 4,533 hijackings, more than 50 a day. These crimes are often violent, occur at any time of day, and target both private and commercial vehicles. 

As SMD Technologies Managing Director Avi Mishan explains:

Through this partnership, SMD Technologies will make Gazer systems available to: 

• Dealers and vehicle importers, who can now offer enhanced protection for new vehicles 

• Fleets and logistics operators, who face some of the highest theft risks nationwide 

• Individual motorists, seeking advanced immobilisation and real-time threat alerts via smartphone 

All installations will be performed by trained South African technicians, ensuring compatibility with local vehicle models and conditions. 

A Long-Term Commitment to Vehicle Safety 

For SMD Technologies and Gazer, this partnership is more than a product rollout; it is a long-term mission. Together, we aim to: 

• Continuously upgrade digital anti-theft software to counter evolving criminal tactics
